Strategic Planning: Simply put, strategic planning determines where an organization is going over the next year or more, how it's going to get there and how it'll know if it got there or not. Far more important than the strategic plan document, is the planning process itself. Strategic planning serves a variety of purposes in an organization, including to:
clearly define the purpose of the organization and to establish realistic goals and objectives;
communicate those goals and objectives to the organization;
develop a sense of ownership of the plan;
build a strong organization;
provides the glue to keep the board together;
Keynote Speaker: Our keynote speaker is Dr. William Walker, Ph. D.
Dr. Walker or "Doc Bill" as his students call him, received his Ph. D. from the University of Pittsburgh. His experience stems from the chairman of the Department of Accounting, Business and Computer Science for Point Park College in Downtown Pittsburgh, to a program chair for the AMA for 14 years in 1970's and 1980's.
Bill worked with Pat McMurry as ICM's Director of Research and Development where they installed the first commercial IBM-PC training rooms in both Pittsburgh and Cleveland. He has been teaching college part time for 35 years, and is now mentoring 8 non-classroom courses for three educational institutions across the country.
Bill has been a member of AITP since the mid-80's. He has served as a Region Director and is currently a member of the Cherry Hill, New Jersey chapter.
Bill's experience in the area of strategic planning comes in the area of a consultant for Management Productivity Services, a small diverse company for 26 years, where he provides planning input and direction for many organizations. Most recently, he was involved in the development of a distance learning branch for a diverse educational institution.
