Data Warehousing: Metrics Driven Management
Will Hutchinson, Informatica
Management thinkers from Michael Hammer to Jack Welch have said that to succeed today, people must manage through metrics. Managing by gut feel is over. People at the point of service must have the required metrics. They must be held accountable for delivering against these metrics. Also, as management learns more about what drives behavior, metrics will change. This talk will explore metrics driven management and how IT can meet management’s expectations in making metrics driven management work. How does data warehousing enable this phenomenon? What characteristics of data warehousing must change as one moves to enterprise metrics driven management? How has technology evolved to enable enterprise metrics driven management.
Mr. Hutchinson has worked IT since 1974 and in Data Warehousing since 1986. He has specified, designed, implemented and determined the ROI for data warehouses in many industries, including insurance, banking, consumer goods, retail, and pharmaceuticals. These data warehouses have covered many subject areas, including procurement, sales, marketing, CRM, procurement, and finance tackling problems as diverse as new product introduction, sales force productivity, strategic sourcing, product and customer profitability, and financial analysis. Mr. Hutchinson has worked for both the vendor and consultant community including Metaphor, IBM, and A.T. Kearney. He is currently employed as a business analyst for Informatica Corporation. He has a BS from Princeton University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
