Wow! We had a great tour of the Cleveland UPS Distribution Center last month. The people who attended learned a lot about how 3.4 billion (2001) packages and documents can be moved effectively from point A to point B. After the tour we went for a "fine meal" at Max & Erma’s. If you were not able to make it, we hope you can join us next time.
AITP Chapter or Region functions are a great way to meet new professionals who share common interests. We can all share our professional experiences by interacting with our peers, build our management skills by serving on committees, sharpen our presentation skills by being a speaker at a meeting. Everyone has knowledge that could be shared with others and we can all gain knowledge by listening to others. The Akron Chapter of AITP has had some very good programs in the past and will continue to bring you up to the minute presentations in the future. This is one of the main advantages of being a member of an organization like AITP.
That is why I do not understand why more members are not attending the events offered to them. The Region 18 Leadership Retreat is a good example of this. It is certainly one of the benefits of being a member of AITP. The Retreat is being held this year in Charleston, WV on November 8-10, 2002. There are several special sessions being offered including a "Leadership Panel", "Creating a Professional Development Plan" and others. These are all included in the registration fee. It is also a great chance to meet professional peers from all over the Region.
The professional and personal networking and the education received from the meetings is what AITP is all about. You are not alone out there. Someone in the group has probably had the same problems you have and can offer help so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. This can save you a lot of time in your job. If you need information about the Retreat, contact any Akron Board Member. Please put forth an effort to make it to the next Chapter meeting on October 29, 2002. You will be doing yourself a favor.
