The Role of The CIO: A Relationship Model

A great deal has been published about the success factors for an IT Executive or CIO as they are labeled today. One key factor is maintaining good relationships with many diverse people. The impact of these relationships has changed significantly as the IT business has evolved over the years. Relationship management is more important today for an IT executive to be successful. Using the IT Executive Relationship Model, this talk will explore the evolution of the IT Executive’s role, how it looks today, and possible future impacts to be considered for continued success. Anyone who is a CIO or aspiring to become one will gain useful insight on what to expect and how to prepare for this dynamic role.
Mr. Balnave has more than 30 years experience in the acquisition and application of information technology to address corporate-wide business strategies. As CIO, he served on executive management teams supporting changing business needs by effectively utilizing information technology to meet business unit requirements. His specialties include communicating with, motivating, and obtaining support from individuals both within and outside the company. Accomplishments include development and implementation of strategic and tactical IT plans, Business Process Redesign (BPR) and restructuring of Information Systems organizations to improve effectiveness and reduce costs at Fortune 500 corporations. He has held management positions with Rubbermaid Inc., Ferro Corporation and Compuware.
Mr. Balnave is a Founding Partner of The SIBA Group, Ltd. - advisors to senior and IT management. He has a BS and MBA from Wayne State University.
